Ingredients

  • 1 lb broccolini
  • 1 Tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 Tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp fresh garlic, minced
  • 1 Tbsp fresh chili paste
  • 1 tsp granulated sugar
  • 1 Tbsp rice wine vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp sesame seeds
  • Kosher salt (to taste)
  • freshly-ground black pepper (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Trim the broccolini by cutting off any rough ends and slicing thicker stalks in half lengthwise. Prepare a large bowl with ice water to keep the broccolini vibrant.
  2. Boil a large pot of salted water over high heat. Once boiling, add the broccolini and cook for 2 minutes, until bright green. Quickly transfer it to the ice water using a slotted spoon to halt the cooking process.
  3. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the sesame oil along with 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. Then, toss in the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until softened and fragrant.
  4. Stir in the chili paste and sugar into the skillet, cooking for an additional 30 seconds to meld the flavors together.
  5. Drain the broccolini and gently pat it dry. Add it to the skillet, drizzling on the remaining vegetable oil and rice wine vinegar.
  6. Sauté for 1-2 minutes until the broccolini is tender but still bright green. Season with salt and pepper to your liking, then sprinkle with sesame seeds. Serve immediately.
