- 1 pound ground beef (80/20)
- 1 cup macaroni pasta (elbow or small shells)
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (sharp or mild)
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (plain or panko)
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 egg
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: 1/2 teaspoon paprika or 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×9 or 8×11-inch casserole dish.
- Cook the macaroni according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, diced onion, minced garlic, egg, breadcrumbs, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.
- Spread half of the cooked macaroni in the prepared dish.
- Press half of the meat mixture over the macaroni.
- Sprinkle half of the shredded cheddar over the meat layer.
- Repeat with the remaining macaroni, meat mixture, and top with the remaining cheese.
- Pour the milk evenly over the casserole.
- Cover loosely with foil and bake for 35 minutes. Remove the foil and bake another 10-15 minutes until cheese is bubbly and the center is cooked through.
- Let rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing.
