Description
Homemade Eggnog is a creamy beverage flavored with Christmas spices.
Ingredients

- 6 large egg yolks
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- pinch of salt
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ground cinnamon (to sprinkle on top)
- alcohol (optional)
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, add the egg yolks and white sugar. Whisk until smooth and creamy.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, add the heavy whipping cream, milk, nutmeg, and salt. Stir frequently until it simmers.
- Stream a ladle of the cream over the egg mixture while whisking quickly. Repeat until the mixture is warm.
- Pour the egg mixture back into the saucepan and whisk for about a minute until combined and slightly thicker.
- Remove from heat, add a splash of vanilla and optional alcohol. Stir and set aside to cool.
- Once cooled, pour the eggnog through a fine mesh strainer into a jar or pitcher. Press the remaining liquid through the strainer and refrigerate until completely cool.
- Serve thick with whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon, or blend with milk to thin before serving.
Notes
- Adjust thickness by adding milk.
- Best served chilled.
