Description
This heavenly toffee recipe is better than anything you’ve ever tasted. It offers a perfect balance of buttery, crisp, and melt-in-your-mouth textures, redefining simple candy.
Ingredients
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Instructions
- Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper. Lightly grease the parchment paper.
- In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine butter, sugar, and water. Cook over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
- Bring the mixture to a boil without stirring. Cook until it reaches 290-300°F (143-149°C) on a candy thermometer. This is crucial for the heavenly toffee texture.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and salt.
- If using nuts, stir them in now.
- Pour the toffee mixture onto the prepared baking sheet. Spread it evenly. This is your heavenly toffee base.
- While the toffee is still warm but not hot, sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the top. Let them sit for a few minutes to soften.
- Gently spread the melted chocolate over the toffee.
- If desired, sprinkle additional chopped nuts over the chocolate.
- Let the toffee cool completely until the chocolate is set. This allows the flavors of your heavenly toffee to meld.
- Once set, break the toffee into pieces. Store your heavenly toffee in an airtight container.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use dark chocolate chips.
- Experiment with different nut additions for variations of this heavenly toffee.
- Ensure your candy thermometer is accurate for the best results.
- Store in a cool, dry place to maintain the crispness of your heavenly toffee.
