Ingredients

  • 1 lb Oyster mushrooms
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 3/4 cup Plant-based milk
  • 1 tsp Apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp Hot sauce
  • 1/3 cup Flour
  • 1/4 cup Corn starch
  • 1/4 cup Cornmeal
  • 1 tsp Oregano
  • 1 tsp Creole seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp Garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp Onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp Paprika
  • 1/4 tsp Black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp White pepper
  • 2 cups Oil

Instructions

  1. Lay clean oyster mushrooms on a paper towel and sprinkle with salt on both sides. Let sit for 30 minutes.
  2. In a shallow bowl, combine plant-based milk, apple cider vinegar, and hot sauce. Stir and let sit for at least 5 minutes.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix flour, corn starch, cornmeal, oregano, creole seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, black and white pepper.
  4. After 30 minutes, rinse mushrooms in a colander to remove salt and pat dry.
  5. In a deep fryer or large pan, heat oil to 370°F (187°C).
  6. Dip each mushroom into milk solution, then coat with flour mixture. Repeat for a second coat.
  7. Carefully place coated mushrooms into hot oil and fry for 2-3 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Remove mushrooms and drain on a paper towel.
  9. Serve hot and enjoy!
