Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 baguette sliced into ½-inch thick rounds
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • for garnish Fresh thyme leaves

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter and olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the sliced onions and cook until soft and caramelized, about 15-20 minutes.
  3. Sprinkle sugar over the onions and cook for an additional 5 minutes until golden.
  4. Pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, stirring to combine, and simmer for 10 minutes.
  5. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  6. Arrange baguette slices on a baking sheet and toast for 5-7 minutes until lightly golden.
  7. Spoon the onion soup mixture onto each toasted baguette slice.
  8. Sprinkle Gruyère and Parmesan cheeses over the topped baguette slices.
