Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together 1 cup of softened unsalted butter and 1 cup of granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add in 2 large eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition until smooth.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together 3 cups of all-purpose flour and 2 teaspoons of baking powder, then fold into the wet ingredients.
- Divide the dough and add food coloring to each part, mixing until vibrant shades are achieved.
- Drop rounded portions of dough onto the baking sheets and gently press in sugar crystals or rock candy on top.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes until the edges are golden, but the centers remain soft.
- Cool on the baking sheets for about 5 minutes before transferring them to wire racks.
