- 2 cups (240g) all-purpose flour
- 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup (240ml) buttermilk (or 1 cup milk + 1 tablespoon lemon juice/vinegar, let sit 5 minutes)
- ½ cup (113g) unsalted butter, melted and cooled
- 2 large eggs, room temperature
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 ½ cups (180g) powdered sugar
- 2–3 tablespoons (30–45ml) milk
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch pan with butter or cooking spray, or line with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a large bowl, whisk together buttermilk, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Pour dry ingredients into wet ingredients and gently fold until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Spread batter evenly into prepared pan and bake for 30 to 35 minutes until golden brown and a toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- Cool bars in pan on a wire rack for about 15 minutes.
- In a small bowl, whisk powdered sugar with 2 tablespoons milk, adding more milk a teaspoon at a time until glaze is smooth and drizzles easily.
- Drizzle glaze over warm bars and let set for about 10 minutes before slicing into 12 squares.
