Description

A foolproof and easy Thanksgiving turkey recipe with roasted vegetables that’s perfect for a stress-free holiday meal. This one-pan wonder delivers juicy turkey and tender veggies with minimal effort.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 whole turkey (1214 lbs)
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 2 tbsp salt
  • 1 tbsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp dried thyme
  • 1 tbsp dried rosemary
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 1 lb green beans, trimmed
  • 1 lb baby carrots
  • 1 lb small potatoes, halved

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F. Pat the turkey dry with paper towels.
  2. Mix softened butter with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, and rosemary in a bowl.
  3. Gently loosen the skin from the turkey breast and smear about half the butter mixture underneath. Rub the remaining butter mixture all over the outside of the turkey.
  4. Place the turkey in a large roasting pan and pour the chicken broth into the bottom.
  5. Roast for 3 hours. Every hour, baste the turkey with the pan juices.
  6. After 3 hours, add the green beans, baby carrots, and small potatoes around the turkey. Continue roasting for another hour, or until a meat thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the thigh reads 165°F.
  7. Remove the turkey from the oven and let it rest for 20 minutes before carving.

Notes

  • Always use a meat thermometer to ensure the turkey is cooked to a safe internal temperature of 165°F.
  • Basting the turkey every hour helps keep the meat moist and flavorful.
  • If the turkey skin starts to brown too quickly, loosely tent it with aluminum foil.
  • Allowing the turkey to rest for 20 minutes before carving is crucial for juicy meat.
  • This recipe is flexible; feel free to substitute vegetables or herbs based on your preference or what you have on hand.
