Ingredients
- 1 whole turkey (12–14 lbs)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 tbsp salt
- 1 tbsp black pepper
- 2 tsp dried thyme
- 2 tsp dried rosemary
- 1 large onion, quartered
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 carrots, chopped
- 2 celery stalks, chopped
- 1 cup chicken broth
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
- Pat the turkey dry with paper towels, inside and out, for crispy skin.
- In a bowl, mix the softened butter with salt, pepper, thyme, and rosemary.
- Gently loosen the skin over the turkey breast and rub about half the butter mixture underneath.
- Stuff the cavity with the quartered onion, minced garlic, chopped carrots, and celery.
- Place the turkey on a rack in a roasting pan. Pour the chicken broth into the bottom of the pan.
- Roast the turkey for 3 to 3.5 hours, or until a meat thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the thigh reads 165°F (74°C).
- Baste the turkey with pan juices every 30 minutes during roasting.
- Once cooked, cover the turkey loosely with foil and let it rest for 20 minutes before carving.
- Carve and serve your easy Thanksgiving dinner centerpiece.
Notes
- Use a meat thermometer to ensure the turkey is cooked to the correct internal temperature.
- Allowing the turkey to rest before carving is crucial for a juicy result.
- Adjust seasoning to your preference before applying the butter rub.
- For a crispy skin, ensure the turkey is completely dry before seasoning.
- Softened butter spreads more easily under the skin than cold or melted butter.
