Description
Texas Hash is a hearty and flavorful one-pan dish featuring ground beef, vegetables, rice, and spices baked to tender perfection and topped with melted cheddar cheese.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 1 green pepper, diced (about ¾ cup)
- 2 cups canned tomatoes with juice (16 ounces)
- ½ cup uncooked long grain rice
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- ½ teaspoon salt, to taste
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
Instructions
- In a large 12-inch cast iron skillet or any skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, diced onion, and green pepper together until the beef is no longer pink and the vegetables begin to soften. Then drain off any excess fat.
- Stir in the canned tomatoes with their juice, uncooked long grain rice, chili powder, Worcestershire sauce, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix everything thoroughly to combine all flavors.
- Cover the skillet with an oven-safe lid or aluminum foil to trap the steam inside.
- Preheat your oven to 375ºF (190ºC). Place the covered skillet in the oven and bake for 35 to 45 minutes, or until the rice is tender.
- After baking, use a fork to fluff the rice gently. If desired, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top to melt over the hot hash.
- Serve the Texas Hash hot immediately. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
