A warm and comforting classic, this Swedish Meatball Noodle Bake blends tender homemade meatballs with a rich, creamy sauce over egg noodles.

- 1/2 pound ground beef
- 1/2 pound ground pork
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
- 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 12 ounces wide egg noodles
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, egg, onion, garlic, allspice, nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Mix just until combined.
- Form the meat mixture into 1 to 1.5-inch balls.
- Heat a skillet with oil over medium heat and brown the meatballs in batches. Set aside.
- Cook the egg noodles in salted water until al dente, then drain and toss with a bit of butter or oil.
- In the same skillet, melt butter and whisk in flour to make a roux. Slowly add beef broth, whisking to avoid lumps.
- Simmer until thickened, then stir in sour cream and heavy cream. Season to taste.
- Combine cooked noodles and sauce in a baking dish and toss until coated.
- Nestle browned meatballs into the noodles and spoon some sauce over them.
- Cover with foil and bake at 375°F for 20 minutes, then uncover and bake another 10–15 minutes until golden and bubbly.
- Garnish with fresh parsley and serve warm.
