- Food coloring (optional)
Instructions
- Place powdered sugar and meringue powder in a large mixing bowl.
- Add water and vanilla extract if using.
- Mix on low speed until the dry ingredients are moistened, then beat on high until smooth and stiff peaks form, about 3–5 minutes.
- Check consistency: for piping, keep stiff; for flooding, add more water one teaspoon at a time until it flows slowly off a spoon.
- Divide into bowls for coloring, adding food coloring and stirring until uniform.
- Pipe outlines on cooled cookies and flood centers with thinned icing. Let each layer crust before adding more details.
- Allow decorated cookies to dry completely before storing.
