Ingredients
Scale
- 1 ¼ cups warm water (115–125 °F)
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 2 Tbsp active dry yeast
- ⅓ cup vegetable oil
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 egg
- 3 ¾ cups all‑purpose flour
Instructions
- Line a 9×13 baking pan with parchment paper or grease it.
- In a stand mixer bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let proof for 2-5 minutes until bubbly.
- Add oil, salt, egg, and flour (one cup at a time). Mix until incorporated.
- Knead the dough with the mixer for about 4 minutes until soft but not sticky.
- Lightly oil your hands and shape the dough into 15 balls.
- Place the dough balls in the prepared pan. Cover with a towel and let rise while the oven preheats.
- Preheat oven to 375 °F (190–191 °C).
- Bake for 20 minutes until golden brown.
- Brush with melted butter and serve warm.
Notes
- For a savory twist, brush with garlic butter before baking.
- Sprinkle with grated parmesan cheese for a cheesy variation.
- For a sweeter roll, serve with honey butter.
- If you don’t have a stand mixer, knead by hand or use a bread machine on the dough setting.
- Store in an airtight container in the fridge. Reheat in the microwave for 30 seconds or let sit out for 15 minutes.
- If yeast mixture doesn’t bubble, the yeast may be expired or water temperature is incorrect.
- To make vegan, substitute egg with a flax egg and use plant-based milk and oil.
