Ingredients
- For the Filling:
- 1 ½ pounds ground beef
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 large yellow onion, finely diced
- 1 green bell pepper, finely diced
- 1 red bell pepper, finely diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- ½ cup beef broth, low sodium
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
- For the Cheese Sauce:
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- ¾ cup whole milk
- 1 cup shredded provolone cheese or white American cheese
- Pinch of salt
- For Assembly:
- 12 slider buns or Hawaiian rolls, sliced
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- Optional toppings: pickled jalapeños, caramelized onions, or banana peppers
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add diced onion, green and red peppers. Cook for 5–7 minutes until softened. Add minced garlic and stir for 30 seconds.
- Add ground beef to the skillet. Break it up and cook until fully browned, about 7–8 minutes. Drain excess fat.
- Stir in Worcestershire sauce, tomato paste, beef broth, ketchup, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes until slightly thickened. This makes the Philly cheesesteak sloppy joe filling.
- Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute. Whisk in milk until slightly thickened. Remove from heat and stir in provolone cheese until melted. Add salt.
- Place bottom halves of slider buns in a greased baking dish. Spoon the Philly cheesesteak sloppy joe meat mixture onto each bun. Drizzle with cheese sauce. Top with the remaining bun halves.
- Brush tops of buns with melted butter and sprinkle with garlic powder. Bake at 350°F for 8–10 minutes until golden and melty.
- Serve these Philly cheesesteak sloppy joe sliders hot. Add optional toppings.
Notes
- These sliders are best served immediately.
- Optional toppings can add extra flavor and texture.
