Description
Festive marbled pink sugar cookies that hold their shape and provide a soft, tender crumb, perfect for Valentine’s Day celebrations.
Ingredients
Scale
- 0.5 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
- 0.5 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg, room temperature
- 1.5 tsp vanilla extract
- 0.25 tsp salt
- 0.5 tsp baking powder
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- Pink or red gel food coloring
Instructions
- Beat the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes.
- Mix in the egg and vanilla until combined. Stir in the salt and baking powder.
- Add the flour in two additions and mix until a smooth, cohesive dough forms. Do not overwork.
- Divide the dough evenly in half. Leave one half plain and tint the other half with gel food coloring until evenly vibrant.
- Pinch small balls from each color (about 1/2–3/4 inch) and arrange them alternately on the counter. Gently knead just a few times to create visible swirls.
- Shape the marbled dough into a disc, wrap tightly in plastic, and chill for 30–60 minutes until firm.
- Roll chilled dough to 1/4 inch thickness on a lightly floured surface. Cut shapes with heart cookie cutters and transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Freeze cut-out shapes for 15 minutes to ensure they don’t spread.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 12–14 minutes until edges look set but centers are pale. Let cool slightly on the sheet before transferring to a rack to cool completely.
