Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1/4 cup reduced sodium soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red-pepper flakes (or more to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 green onions (thinly sliced)
  • 1/4 teaspoon sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, reduced sodium soy sauce, sesame oil, crushed red-pepper flakes, and ground ginger until the mixture is well combined and smooth.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a large cast iron skillet over medium-high heat. Add the minced garlic and cook, stirring constantly, for about 1 minute or until fragrant.
  3. Add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook for 3 to 5 minutes, breaking it apart as it cooks, until the beef is browned. Drain any excess fat.
  4. Pour the soy sauce mixture into the skillet with the cooked beef. Add the green onions and stir until well combined. Allow to simmer for about 2 minutes.
  5. Plate the beef immediately. Garnish with additional green onions and sprinkle sesame seeds on top if desired.
