These homemade biscuits are soft, flaky, and buttery with a lightly crisp exterior.
Ingredients

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, very cold and cubed
- 3/4 cup cold milk or buttermilk
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
- Add cold butter and cut into the flour until coarse crumbs form with some pea-sized pieces.
- Pour in cold milk or buttermilk and stir gently until just combined.
- Transfer dough to a floured surface. Pat into a 1-inch thick rectangle, fold in half, pat down, and repeat once.
- Cut straight down using a biscuit cutter or glass. Place biscuits close together on the baking sheet.
- Bake for 12–15 minutes until golden brown. Cool slightly before serving.
