Description
This easy hamburger green bean casserole is a hearty comfort food dinner made with seasoned ground beef, tender green beans, creamy mushroom sauce, and a crispy onion topping. It’s quick to prep, family-friendly, and perfect for cozy weeknight meals.

- 1 tablespoon salted butter
- 1 small sweet onion (diced)
- 2 pounds 80/20 ground beef
- 1 ½ pounds green beans (trimmed, cooked, and well drained, about 3 cups)
- 1 tablespoon full-fat cream cheese
- 1 tablespoon minced roasted garlic
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon mustard powder
- 1 10.5-ounce can cream of mushroom soup
- 1 cup shredded Colby Jack cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella
- 2 cups french fried onions
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F and spray a 9×13 casserole dish with non-stick cooking spray.
- In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the onions and sauté until soft and translucent, about 7 minutes.
- Increase the skillet temperature to medium-high and add the ground beef. Cook for 7-8 minutes until browned, then drain off the grease.
- Turn off the heat and add the cream cheese, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and mustard powder. Stir until the cream cheese melts into the mixture.
- While the beef cooks, boil the green beans in lightly salted water for 4-7 minutes or steam them covered for 6-8 minutes. Drain well.
- In a large bowl, mix the cooked green beans with the cream of mushroom soup until fully coated.
- Add half of the ground beef to the bottom of the casserole dish, then layer with half of the green beans. Repeat with remaining beef and green beans. Top with Colby Jack and mozzarella cheeses and crispy fried onions.
- Bake uncovered for 20 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Serve warm.
