Description
A quick and easy homemade dessert featuring creamy cheesecake filling and sweet strawberry jam sandwiched between graham crackers, then fried to a golden crisp.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 oz (225g) cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup (80g) strawberry jam
- 2 tbsp (15g) powdered sugar
- About 20 graham cracker squares or 10 sandwich cookie pairs
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1/2 cup (65g) all-purpose flour
- About 2 cups (475ml) vegetable oil (canola or sunflower)
- 1 tsp (5ml) vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy. Set aside.
- Lay out graham crackers or sandwich cookies flat. Spread a teaspoon of cream cheese filling on half of them, then a small dollop of strawberry jam on top. Top with matching cracker or cookie to make a sandwich. Press gently to seal.
- Chill sandwiches in the fridge for about 15 minutes to firm up the filling (optional but recommended).
- Set up a shallow bowl with beaten egg and a plate with flour. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat to about 350°F (175°C). Dip each sandwich into egg, coating both sides, then dredge lightly in flour, shaking off excess.
- Carefully place sandwiches into hot oil. Fry 1-2 minutes per side until golden and crispy. Work in batches to maintain oil temperature.
- Transfer fried sandwiches to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Let cool for 2-3 minutes. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
