Description

Dark Chocolate Bread Pudding is a rich and creamy dessert made with stale bread, dark chocolate, and a custard mixture.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups stale bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips (70% cocoa or higher)
  • 3 large eggs
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)
  • Fresh berries or whipped cream, for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare a baking dish, either a 9×13 inch or individual ramekins, by greasing it lightly with butter or cooking spray.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, add the stale bread cubes.
  3. In a saucepan, combine the whole milk and heavy cream. Heat over medium heat until it is warm but not boiling. Remove from heat.
  4. Add the dark chocolate chips to the warm cream mixture. Stir until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, salt, and ground cinnamon until well combined.
  6. Gradually pour the warm chocolate mixture into the egg mixture, whisking constantly to prevent the eggs from scrambling.
  7. Pour the custard mixture over the stale bread cubes. Gently fold to ensure every piece of bread is coated. Let it sit for about 10-15 minutes to absorb the liquid.
  8. Pour the bread and custard mixture into the prepared baking dish. Spread it evenly and gently press down the bread cubes.
  9. Place in the preheated oven and bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  10. Remove from the oven and allow it to cool for 10-15 minutes before serving.
