Description

This Crock Pot Scalloped Potatoes and Ham is creamy comfort food. Tender sliced potatoes and savory ham are slow-cooked in a rich, cheesy sauce until soft and flavorful. An easy dump-and-go recipe for busy days.


Ingredients

  • 900 g 2 lbs potatoes, thinly sliced (Yukon Gold or russet)
  • 2 cups cooked ham (diced)
  • 1 small onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ¼ tsp paprika (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the slow cooker
  2. Lightly grease the inside of your crock pot with butter or cooking spray.
  3. Slice the potatoes
  4. Cut potatoes into thin slices (about 3 mm / 1⁄8 inch thick).
  5. Try to keep slices uniform for even cooking.
  6. Make the creamy sauce
  7. Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
  8. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute.
  9. Slowly whisk in milk and cream until smooth.
  10. Add salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
  11. Cook 3–4 minutes until slightly thickened.
  12. Stir in 1 cup of cheese until melted.
  13. Layer ingredients
  14. Place a layer of potatoes in the crock pot.
  15. Add some onion and ham.
  16. Pour a small amount of sauce over the layer.
  17. Repeat layers until ingredients are used.
  18. Cook
  19. Cover and cook: LOW for 6–7 hours or HIGH for 3–4 hours.
  20. Potatoes should be tender when pierced with a fork.
  21. Add final cheese
  22. Sprinkle remaining ½ cup cheese on top during the last 20 minutes.
  23. Cover and continue cooking until melted.
  24. Rest and serve
  25. Let sit 10 minutes before serving for best texture.
