Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound White fish fillets (cod, haddock, or tilapia)
- 1 cup All-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 1 teaspoon Black pepper
- 2 large Eggs
- 1 cup Panko breadcrumbs
- 2 cups Oil for frying (Vegetable or canola oil)
- 4 pieces Sandwich buns
- 1 cup Lettuce (Can substitute with spinach or arugula)
- 1 medium Tomato slices
- 1/2 cup Pickles (Optional)
- 1/2 cup Sauce of choice (Tartar sauce, lemon aioli, or spicy mayo)
Instructions
- Pat the fish fillets dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture. Preheat oil in a skillet to 350°F (175°C).
- In a shallow dish, mix together the all-purpose flour, salt, and black pepper. Coat each fish fillet in the flour mixture.
- Beat the eggs in a bowl. Dip each floured fish fillet into the egg wash, ensuring they’re well-coated.
- Roll the egg-dipped fillets in panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently to ensure they stick.
- Carefully fry the coated fillets in hot oil for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
- Melt a bit of butter in a pan. Toast the sandwich buns cut-side down until lightly crisp and golden.
- Spread sauce on the bottom half of each bun. Layer with lettuce, tomato, crispy fish fillet, and pickles if desired.
- Top with fresh herbs if desired and serve immediately with lemon wedges.
