Description

Creamy Whiskey Hamburger Steaks offer a deliciously comforting dish, ready in just 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound Ground Beef (can substitute with ground turkey or chicken)
  • 1 cup Breadcrumbs (can use crushed crackers or gluten-free breadcrumbs)
  • 1 teaspoon Salt (kosher or sea salt recommended)
  • 1 teaspoon Coarsely Ground Black Pepper (white pepper can be used)
  • 1 large Egg (a flax egg is a vegan alternative)
  • 1 medium Shallot (Grated) (yellow onion works well if shallots are unavailable)
  • 2 tablespoons Olive Oil (vegetable oil or butter can be used)
  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted Butter (ghee or dairy-free alternatives for lactose intolerance)
  • 2 medium Shallots (Diced) (substitute with yellow onion or leeks if necessary)
  • 3 cloves Garlic Cloves (Minced) (garlic powder can be used in a pinch)
  • 1 tablespoon Yellow Mustard (Dijon mustard is an excellent alternative)
  • 2 tablespoons Flour (cornstarch or gluten-free flour can be substitutes)
  • 1/2 cup Whiskey (non-alcoholic whiskey option or broth can be used)
  • 1 cup Beef Broth (vegetable broth can lighten up the sauce)
  • 1 cup Cream (20% fat or heavy cream) (coconut cream for dairy-free option)
  • 2 tablespoons Chives (Chopped) (green onions or parsley can also be used)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs, salt, pepper, and grated shallot. Gently mix until just combined. Shape into four patties about ¾ inch thick.
  2. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add olive oil and unsalted butter. Sear the patties for approximately 5 minutes on each side until golden-brown and cooked to desired doneness.
  3. Reduce the heat and add diced shallots and minced garlic to the drippings. Sauté for about 1 minute until shallots are translucent.
  4. Stir in yellow mustard, flour, salt, and pepper. Cook for another minute until the mixture resembles a paste.
  5. Pour whiskey into the skillet, deglazing it and scraping up any browned bits. Simmer for about 3 minutes until it thickens slightly.
  6. Add beef broth and bring to a gentle boil. Slowly incorporate the cream, stirring until fully combined and sauce is velvety.
  7. Return the seared hamburgers to the skillet, nestling into the sauce and simmering for another 5 minutes to meld flavors.
  8. Remove from heat, garnish with chopped chives and serve immediately.
