Description

Our chuck steak recipe turns one of the most underrated cuts of beef into a standout. It’s affordable, packed with beefy flavor, and when cooked the right way, incredibly satisfying.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb chuck steak
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon coarse black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon mustard powder
  • ½ teaspoon sweet paprika
  • ½ teaspoon brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Remove the steak from the refrigerator 30 minutes before cooking to bring it to room temperature.
  2. Add salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, mustard powder, paprika, and brown sugar to a bowl.
  3. Mix the ingredients to create a steak seasoning or rub.
  4. Pat the steak dry with a paper towel on both sides.
  5. Sprinkle the seasoning over the steak and press it into the meat.
  6. Season both sides of the steak and let it marinate for at least 15 minutes while it comes to room temperature.
  7. Heat a cast-iron pan or large frying pan over medium heat until it begins to smoke.
  8. Add the olive oil to the pan, then place the chuck steak in it. Cook for 5-6 minutes and flip to the other side.
  9. Cook for an additional 5-6 minutes, or until the steak reaches an internal temperature of 125 degrees for medium-rare.
  10. Once you reach your desired temperature, remove from the heat and rest for 5-10 minutes to allow the juices to redistribute.
  11. Slice on a bias against the grain and serve with your favorite vegetables.
