Description

These Christmas Slice and Bake Cookies are festive, buttery, and incredibly easy to prepare.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup (150g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups (280g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Red gel food coloring
  • Green gel food coloring
  • Optional: Holiday sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Mix in egg and vanilla. Whisk flour and salt separately, then add to wet ingredients to form a smooth dough.
  2. Split dough into three equal portions. Leave one plain. Dye the others red and green with gel food coloring.
  3. Roll each color into a log or rectangle. Layer, twist, marble, or combine as desired. Roll edges in sprinkles if using.
  4. Wrap dough logs tightly in plastic wrap and chill for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice chilled dough into 1/4-inch rounds with a sharp knife.
  6. Place slices on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake 9–11 minutes, until edges are just turning golden.
  7. Let cookies cool on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack.
