- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 egg
- ½ cup breadcrumbs (60 g)
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp paprika (optional)
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 cups milk (480 ml)
- 1 ½ cups shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or mix)
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp pepper
- ½ cup shredded cheese (extra for golden top)
- Fresh parsley (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven
- Heat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Prepare Meatballs
- In a bowl, combine ground meat, onion, garlic, egg, breadcrumbs, salt, pepper, paprika.
- Mix until just combined.
- Shape into small meatballs (about 2–3 cm).
- Slice Potatoes
- Cut potatoes into thin slices (about 3 mm) so they cook evenly.
- Make Cheese Sauce
- Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
- Add flour and whisk for 1 minute.
- Slowly pour in milk, whisking constantly.
- Cook until slightly thickened.
- Stir in cheese, salt, and pepper until smooth.
- Assemble the Bake
- Arrange half of the potato slices in the baking dish.
- Place meatballs evenly on top.
- Add remaining potato slices.
- Pour cheese sauce evenly over everything.
- Bake
- Cover with foil and bake 35 minutes.
- Remove foil, sprinkle extra cheese on top.
- Bake 15–20 minutes more until potatoes are tender and top is golden.
- Rest & Serve
- Let sit 10 minutes before serving.
