Description
This sausage and cabbage dish is a delicious meal that prepares in one pan in 25 minutes. Crunchy cabbage and flavorful roasted meat are the perfect combination of healthy comfort food.
Ingredients
Scale
- ½ pound seasoned sausage (turkey or beef)
- 3 ½ cups green cabbage
- 1–2 tablespoons cooking oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon brown sugar
- a splash of water
- 2 teaspoons butter, salted or unsalted
- Freshly chopped parsley, for garnish
- Seasoning salt
- Creole or Cajun seasoning
- Garlic powder
Instructions
- Start by cutting the cabbage in half and removing the core. Cut half into pieces about 1 inch thick.
- Cook sausage slices in a large skillet with cooking oil over medium heat. Once cooked, set it aside in a separate dish.
- In the same pan, add a little water to dissolve. Then add the cabbage, a little extra oil if needed, sugar, salt, and pepper. Cook the cabbage over medium-low heat until tender.
- Add seasoning salt, Creole or Cajun seasoning, or garlic powder as desired. Reduce the heat, add the butter to the cabbage, and mix until it dissolves completely. Add the cooked sausage back in, cover the pan and simmer for a few more minutes. Garnish with fresh chopped parsley if you like.
Notes
- Don’t slice the cabbage too thin, or it will cook too fast and get mushy.
- If the pan seems dry, add a little extra oil while cooking the cabbage.
