- 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
- 1/2 teaspoon chili powder (adjust to taste)
- 1 (15 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup plain yogurt
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- Salt to taste
- Fresh cilantro, chopped, for garnish
Instructions
- Marinate chicken pieces with yogurt, lemon juice, and half of the garam masala, cumin, turmeric, and chili powder. Let it sit for at least 30 minutes.
- Melt butter in a large skillet or pot over medium heat. Add chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
- Add minced garlic and grated ginger. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Add the marinated chicken to the skillet and cook until browned on all sides.
- Stir in the remaining garam masala, cumin, turmeric, and chili powder. Cook for 1 minute.
- Pour in the crushed tomatoes. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat, cover, and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until chicken is cooked through.
- Stir in the heavy cream and salt to taste. Cook for another 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened and flavors have melded.
- Serve hot, garnished with fresh cilantro.
Notes
- For a spicier dish, add more chili powder.
- If you don’t have heavy cream, you can use evaporated milk.
