A versatile and stable frosting that gives a smooth, matte finish, perfect for cookie decorating and piping flowers.
Ingredients

- 1 cup room temperature unsalted butter
- 1 cup vegetable shortening
- 2 lbs. plus 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tsp. clear vanilla extract
- 2–4 tbsp. room temperature whole milk
Instructions
- Fit your mixer with the paddle attachment. Add the butter and shortening to the bowl. Beat on medium speed until smooth, about 1–2 minutes.
- Reduce mixer speed. Slowly add powdered sugar in manageable batches. Scrape down the sides and bottom of the bowl between additions.
- Once all powdered sugar is incorporated, add the clear vanilla extract and mix briefly to combine.
- Add 2 tablespoons of milk and beat until smooth. Adjust the consistency by adding more milk or powdered sugar as needed.
